Government Liaison and Training

Australia Post

Honda MPE has supplied Australia Post with specially developed 110cc motorcycles over the past two decades.

These familiar red “postie bikes” (model CT110P) are the only motorcycles in Australia permitted to ride on footpaths, and have been modified specifically to handle the arduous loads, constant use, and climatic conditions required by Australia Post.

Honda Australia Rider Training (HART) is also responsible for training around 3500 Posties each year, and has done so since 1999.

Police

Honda MPE has had a close association with both State and Federal Australian Police Forces over many years. Honda supplies motorcycles which are used for traffic management, law enforcement and general policing duties.

HART has recently embarked on providing Community Enforcement Engagement training for non-riding police officers to improve their awareness of relevant issues within the motorcycling community at large. HART has also trained motorcycle riding police officers over the years, and continues to deliver ATV training as required.

Local Councils

Honda, through HART, has delivered important on-road riding skills programs for riders requiring more experience in “real world” traffic situations via programs sponsored by the Motor Accidents Insurance Board in Tasmania, the NRMA-ACT Road Safety Trust, Shire of Yarra Ranges (VIC), and Gold Coast City Council.

Australian Volunteer Coast Guard

In the past, Honda has supplied four-stroke outboard marine engines for the Australian Volunteer Coast Guard for use in their daily activities including education, training, safety patrols and search & rescue operations.

Australian Defence Force

HART has provided various courses for the Australian Defence Force who established a rider training program aimed at preventing occupational and personal injury of their motorcycle riding Army, Air Force and civilian staff.

Vic Roads/RTA/Queensland Transport

Honda Australia Rider Training Centre was the first fully-private facility authorised to conduct Learner Permit and licence Testing.

Government and Association Representation

Honda and HART provide representation for three different road safety councils, as well as the Victorian Motorcycle Advisory Committee (VMAC).

Honda’s Managing Director, Stuart Strickland, is a Board Member of the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) and has the unique distinction of having been honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

A representative from Honda MPE attends and contributes to the Australian Standards Committees for Brushcutters, Chainsaws and Mowers.

Honda is also a member of the following additional Associations:

  • Outdoor Power Equipment Association (OPEA)
  • Tractor Manufacturer’s Association
  • Clear Energy Council
  • Boating Industry Association
  • OEDA (Outboard Engine Distributors Association)
  • Australian Scooter Federation (ASF).

ATV Training

Honda MPE has worked with the Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE) in training their work crews on ATVs for use in rugged terrain parkland, and provides ATV training for the rural sector through state based Farmers' Federations.

ATV training is also provided at various times of the year to staff in the Department of Primary Industry, the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions (ANARE) as well as various local councils.

University and TAFE Projects

Honda contributes regularly to various road safety research including projects conducted by Monash University Accident Research Centre.

Various engines have been donated to TAFE colleges around the country for use in their small engine apprentice training programs.

Honda also regularly provides engines to University of Melbourne Engineering students who participate annually in a national Motorsports Team competition where teams of students are challenged to conceive, design, fabricate and compete a small, formula-style racing car.
