HART offers one day, two day and Flexi Learner Permit courses and testing. The two day and flexi learner permit courses have been designed for students who have never ridden before, whilst the one day course requires that students are familiar with motorcycle riding skills and techniques.

Kick Start

For those with little or no motorcycle/scooter riding experience)

The Kick Start session covers the basics of the motorcycle and its operation and handling and then moves on to braking and slow riding techniques. This course runs for 4 hours and aims to get you up and riding.

After successfully completing the Kick Start session, Kick Start allows 3 main learning pathways to obtain your learner permit. Click here to see how this works and pricing.

  • Instruction for the duration of your session
  • Use of helmet, gloves and wet weather gear for the session duration
  • Use of a Honda motorcycle, scooter or CT110
  • This is a stand alone introductory session, no testing is included. Your actual learner permit can be obtained by completing the one or two day learner permit course and testing.

Two day Learner Permit Course and Testing

Day One covers the basics of the motorcycle and its operation and handling and then moves on to braking and slow riding techniques.

Day Two recaps the skills learnt on the first day and you will complete the Learner Permit Skill Assessment and Knowledge Test. You will finish the day with an extensive Roadcraft session covering issues such as skills and techniques, protective clothing and dealing with emergency situations.

Both days are consecutive, easy paced, commence at 8:30am and conclude at 4:00pm.

Your course fee covers all costs including:

  • Instruction for both days
  • Use of helmet, gloves and wet weather gear for the course duration
  • Use of a Honda motorcycle, scooter or CT110.
  • Learner Permit Skill Assessment

Legislation on how to obtain your motorcycle learner permit and/or motorcycle licence varies from state to state in Australia. To obtain your learners permit from HART is fantastic. It gives you the freedom from that day to ride a LAMS approved motorcycle or scooter.

To be issued with a Motorcycle Learner Permit you must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age on the day of testing.
  • Hold a current Victorian Car Learner Permit or Licence
  • Not be currently suspended, refused or disqualified from holding a licence in Australia or Overseas.
  • Provide Proof of Identity & Residence.
  • Pass a VicRoads eye test.
  • Pass the VicRoads Motorcycle Learner Permit Skill Assessment.
  • Pass the Motorcycle Knowledge Test - (To prepare for this test read Victorian Rider Handbook - 2010 Edition )
  • If you do not have a current Victorian Car licence or Learner Permit, you will also need to attend VicRoads and sit a Road Law Knowledge Test to obtain your Victorian Learners Permit (or convert your interstate licence to Victorian) prior to booking in with HART
  • You MUST meet VicRoads medical standards to be issued with a permit. If you have a medical condition or are taking any prescription medicine, you may be required to obtain a medical report from your doctor or health care professional, this must be completed prior to attending your course.
